Default Thinkin' of getting me a Telecaster...

Right, I own a Mexican Strat which I adore but I'm now beginning to play live a lot and I'm beginning to think that a back-up axe might be a good idea. I've always been more comfortable with Fenders than Gibsons and my new band is primarily a rock n' roll/rockabilly/blues band, so I think the logical choice is a Telecaster. We're doing some Johnny Cash, some Elvis, Chuck Berry, Stray Cats etc. I'm only 16 so money is fairly tight! A Squier isn't an option as I've never believed in buying average products. I think a Mexican Tele could be the way to go. I'm willing to pay up to 550 euro for it. Can anyone recommend an exact model, or even a different guitar altogether? I'm sure many will mention a nice, hollow-body Gretsch for the rockabilly! Thanks!

Even so, I would rather get a Fender. Squiers have a beginner feel to them while a Fender is for life. When I upgraded my Strat from a Squier to a Mexican, I couldn't believe the difference...Call me superficial, but the name on the headstock is important to me too, lol

Erm... a Mexican Fender Tele then?

I'm puzzled as to what you're asking - you seem to know what it is you want. Nowt wrong with the couple of Mexi Fenders I've tried, so try a few and buy one if it grabs you.

At that money you might be able to get yourself a second hand G&L ASAT - more Fender than Fender, and very, very good guitars. Arguably - though we probably shouldn't get into such an argument here - better than a USA Fender.

See if you can try a Fender Classic Player Baja Tele. I've got one and it's fucking ace.
