Yeh I spotted the Torres load box (mentioned earlier in the thread) and I called them yesterday. Seemed fine and in fact they offered to modify the spec slightly to suit my needs better. Top blokes.

I reckon I'll go with them to be honest. There seems to be too many if's and buts regarding this "Noise Clamp" and I'm not willing to take the risk.

What about a Marshall powerbrake - nobody seemed to mention this. I've used them in the past without problems.

They have selectable impedance and you are after all, running it for a..............Marshall

I think they tend to go for around a tonne used.

Only downside with the Marshall is that they are quite big and heavy for what it is.

Fuck it - GAS'd on a Powerbrake from eBay. £159 with no P&P.

Going rate is £250 new so can't grumble at £100 off.

It has exactly what I need, stepped attenuation and the ability to run at either 8 or 16 ohm. Lovely stuff.

I never said they were shite. Isaid they were supposed to be shite according to the usual Harmony Central reviews.

I trust Mr Fastboy more than some Yankee kid that's probably never even seen one. Plus, at £150 I'll take a punt. I can get my money back if need be.

LOL. Patience running out my friend??

I read somewhere(don't know where) that some people run amps with the wrong impedance deliberately to work them harder. But I have no idea what that does to amps or valves. I definately did read it though!

A couple of other things.......... I sent u a mail and secondly I would be interested in hearing the PowerBrake evaluation too. I had a THD and didnt like it. Thought it robbed the tone.

I've had both, kept the hotplate. The PB works OK with Marshalls though. You just have to make sure you get one with the upgrades, otherwise they had a tendency to destroy OPTs.

Kev's running a Marshall JMP though so he'll be fine. I've used powerbrakes in the past (mainly with Marshall and once with an Orange) and never had a single problem. Solid, reliable and transparent sounding bit of kit. Take HC reviews with a big pinch of salt.

Vintage Marshall is what the powerbrake was designed for !!!
