something I do disagree with though

    This in particular:

    *Boost broad, cut narrow"
why would anyone give a damn about this if a narrow boost narrow is what you need. or a broad scoop for that matter.

You boost and cut in whatever way it's needed simple.

    "Subtracting is better than adding."
--wtf?? how is it better? When is it better? what sounds? All sounds. Does it sound better in context?
-again, you add or subtract whatever is needed.

"Eq at source (get the sound right from square 1)"
-Sure. but that's just sound production advice. You don't always have that option if you're a mix-engineer.

    Imagine the engineer:
" Yes the vocals did sound a lot better when I boosted so and so frequency, but general rulels of thumb advice against it so we'll just have stick wit the crappy vocal sound."

"Yes I know it needed a boost but it's always better to cut"

client slaps forehead and walks out the door.

"Large boosts will sound unnatural, especially in the top end."
--again. wtf?? Unnatural? on what? everything? Sjhould I always go for natural? If I want somethin un-natural am i screwed?
If it sounds great with a huge boost in the midrange, then I shouldn't do it right??

As for the tech stuff, all filtering will introduce artifacts, it's part of the game and it's also what gives different characteristics.

throw taste into this discussion and it's basically pointless.

Who on earth would ever mix a track based on any of these so called rules. That would mean mixing by numbers and disregarding what you hear and that can't possibly be good can i?

The only thing that really matter is how it sounds, everything else is secondary.

I'm looking forward to the day someone comes up to me and starts complaining about some artifact he heard in a track.

I can say this much : If someone ever complains about how it sounds, it's not because of the technicalities or artifacts.
    It's because it sounds bad.

    IMO

i was waiting for someone else to say it
