Was planning on a nitro refin, swapping the gold hardware out for nickel, new pickups etc etc...... the sort of stuff that destroys resale value! Most of its just cosmetics anyway so seems silly to do but spare cash & new guitar = better than a guitar im not quite happy with

Ye best to get a new guitar lol
Can see why you would change the pups. Dunno why you'd do a refin though, prs do nice thin finishes.
How much you selling it for?
I like big necks and I cannot lie. You other brothers can't deny

Unfortunately it means that i feel somewhat let down now on cheaper models/brands usually unless (usually by chance dare i say?) its a special one.
yeah. if you know where to look you can still get nice guitars at a cheaper price, but more often than not (for me anyway), it's lesser-known brands which are cheap because people either don't know about them, or which are cheap because of prejudice as they aren't a sought-after brand (e.g. eggle, japanese copies etc.), or else NOS or second-hand stuff which they're looking rid of (for pretty much the same reasons i already posted).

This used to annoy me, but then i realised it meant I could get them cheaper. So it doesn't really worry me too much any more.

I think the other thing which i've noticed, even over the length of time which I've been playing (since 2000) is that the cheaper stuff seems to be getting much, much better, but the really nice stuff, if anything, is getting more expensive. though a lot of that might be down to currency fluctuations at the moment, lol.

    Hi

I know this is a little left field but instead of going for the tyler etc what about custom builds from the uk like fleine?

I know the resale is not good but if your looking for a quality guitar to last you a lifetime built to your spec.....

Do these guitars stand up to the Tyler/Andersons and hubers?

No idea without trying them first. Personally from now on i'm either building them myself or sticking with high visibilty builders simply because of the better resale price etc etc......

i've got a legra, and if you ask me it's as nice as the tylers and hubers i've tried (and cost me around half as much). the big problems with custom builds are resale (as you've already said), having to wait for it to be built, and deciding on a spec and sticking to it (lol). if you can put up with those 3 things, and go with a reputable luthier/custom shop, then if you ask me going custom-build is a good idea- but it's not for everyone.
