It is the E bay dumping that gets most people. The guitars are very good, but when you shell out a lot of cash for something, then see them cut price on E bay, it grates (and undermines your resale value).

I know beauty is a personnal thing and one man meat is anothers poison etc. but to me they are really minging looking. It just looks like every single aspect of the design has been forced rather than the design being allowed to let flow into its natural shape. Its difficult to describe in words but his guitars are just plain ugly in my eyes. One of the only UK electric builders whose guitars look really good to me are those by Rob Williams?

Unfortunately, custom guitars rarely work out as investments - even the great ones. If you're going to get a luthier built guitar and pay the associated price tag, the only real way to go i.m.o. is to get them to make you exactly what you want, without compromise, and work on the basis that you'll always keep it.

Actually the charity one currently on ebay, if the price doesn't hike at the end, is probably a good buy

For me they are the epitome of form over function. Very nice and interesting looking things from a distance but I have never encountered one which sounds or plays any better than a lot of stuff around the £300-500 mark (although making Bare Knuckle Pickups sound completely ordinary is an achievement of sorts I suppose!). Fortunately the guitar world has a fair quantity of buyers who on the whole do not really care how their instrument sounds so I imagine such a 'bling' beast will always sell a few. No personal dealings with NSG myself but heard plenty from reliable sources. I cannot say any such interaction would be for me.

If you like the guitar as an instrument then I would say to hang onto it. It is not now and never will be (in my opinion) an investment.

My one has plenty of functionality. The compound radius neck is fabulously slick and easy to play and the pickups (Bareknuckle knuckledusters) are very versatile. They nail the telecaster range of sounds and also manage a good highish output 'bucker tone. All of the moans I have heard about them have always been down to business practises and long delays, not the end product, which I'm quite happy with. It is also lightweight and hangs easily on the strap so makes for a good gigging guitar. It certianly sounds better than any Epiphone or mexi Fender I've played. They are not in the same league as Morgans mind you,.

We all know his weaknesses, and it really disappoints me that he's created such a negative perception. I know, 90% his fault. But he does also make (has made) some beautiful instruments.

    Guess no-one's perfect
There are two different issues - does he make good guitars? A bit too 'furniture' for my tastes, but I'd say yes.

Should he be in the business of making them? Not on his own; if he had the discipline of an employer making sure that things got done on time it'd be a different story.

    Especially after a respray.

For what it's worth, the nylon strung NSG Tony has is (and yes, I've played it a few times) really very nicely made.
