    Default My Home Studio

Well, while staying at home after being made redundant 6 months ago, I have patched together a nice little home studio:

    SONAR 8 (with a variety of add-ins)
HP Laptop (with enough memory to get by)
    M-Audio studio monitors
    Novation MIDI Keyboard/Synth
    Sterling Audio ST59 Condenser Mic
    Audix i5 Mics (2)
    Alesis Firewire MultiMix 8 Mixer
    Presonus Firestudio Project Interface

I'm working on a basic 6 track instrumental thing with bass, drums, 12 string acoustic (rhythm) guitar, Fender Strat (lead) guitar, 6 string (lead overdub) acoustic guitar, and keyboard. It's a jazzed up U2 inspired tune in F#min, with a break in Amaj. Recording some direct into desk - real time, and using a mic'd stereo track for the lead guitars (2 mics from the Vox AC15). It's all very new to me, so it will be pretty rough around the edges. Will post some photos and an mp3 when completed.

Cheers, y'all. Oh, BTW, should be getting offer of employment next week.

Nice one man, no better way of spending downtime; how're you finding the Presonus? I'm running exactly the same thing at the minute and wondering why I ever used anything else

It was actually quite easy to install, set it up...no surprises, really. The only problem I have is that I must use ASIO in order to have access to all the inputs; when I use WDM, I can only select three...oh well, ASIO is just fine, but I have to increase the buffers to 288 to optimize performance.
One usually worries about driver issues and whatnot with interfaces, but I am impressed with the FS Project. I originally had a Firebox, but wanted more inputs and features. I'm actually having more issues with SONAR 8 Studio Edition. It has so many features, I'm almost overwhelmed. Since I can't stand too much of a good thing, I ordered the SONAR 8.3 Producer edition upgrade...I'm a masochist! Hope you're enjoying your FSP, as well.

Well, here's a pic of the home studio. I'm almost done with my first mix; will post the mp3 later.

wow .... did i post this?

    sorry, i meant a shure sm57 ....

your setup looks great ... if you're happy with your mics, then there's no pressing need for another .... one advantage of experimenting with mics is that the learning curve is right in front of you .... as opposed to being on your computer .... i don't use 1/2 of what my DAW software is capable of ..... it's very easy to get overwhelmed by today's recording software packages ......

... computer bozos ( like myself ) enjoy the nuts and bolts of the bits and bytes .... but it does keep us from making music at times ....
