the bridge pup bass side looks to be about +5mm below the edge of the pick up ring to me, add to that 3-5mm string clearance for the ring and i'd say the pup was set to about +10mm below the string*

raise it up i say and measure from the underside of the string to the top of the pup magnetic screw, 5mm ish gap

I used to be in a band you know, there was links and all sorts in this sig right here. But now all gone. Gone like ashes in the wind. Fuck it I was shit anyway.

'Looks' a bit strange to my untrained eyes Kev but it's all about how they sound, so if you like them like that then great! For 'my way', I get them level with the (Historic) pickup rings to begin with and then adjust to taste.

Yeh they do look low but when I fret at the last fret they measure fine.

I'm playing with the band tomorrow so I'll raise them up flush with the rings and see what that's like.

    Will take a screwdriver too.

This might sound dumb but might it be the amp you're using which isn't getting you the tone you like?

Do you spend all your time up at the last fret?

Unless you play that high up often, I'd bring the pick ups up.

Who cares what the book says? I'd say your ears are a better judgement of what height the pick ups should be at than a book.

    LOL!

Sometimes I wish I kept my old setup but I'm really happy with what I've got now and it's something I can keep for a while.

I doubt the GT8 and the JVM will age as well.
