    Default *Watching* Steve Vai

It's just struck me that whilst I couldn't listen to Vai play all day on a CD or whatever, I could watch him play forever.

I think you get a much better idea of his intentions behind his playing when you can see what he's doing - something that sounds like wanking on the record makes sense and you can kind of get an idea what he's getting at.

An absolute joy to watch him perform IMO - absolute control over every singly tiny nuance and note he plays. I always get the impression that everything that comes out of his guitar/amp is exactly what he intends and hears in his head.

    Fucking incredible and truly awesome.

    Yeah, I totally agree.

Despite a few attempts, I've never really been able to get into his music, beyond the odd song. I would certainly find it hard to listen to a whole album of his without getting bored.

But live, he is extraordinary. I saw him play in Dublin in 2000 and it was one of the best gigs I've ever been to. The guy is a fantastic showman - he gives everything to his music.
