careful - the earliest 2 or 3 years of JMP were very desirable(the "plexi" models) so that might account for the very high value of some JMPs. From late 69/70 on it changed a bit and so do values. (not saying you're wrong - just observing aloud)
    Red ones are better.

    it sounds like a lot.

as timmyo said, I think you are confusing it with the late 60's hendrix era models, which are more collectable. I would say about £500 is a more realistic price. my opinion of course.

Fair comment, cheers gents... I thought that I might have been a bit optimistic... I know the plexi's go for serious cash but I've seen a few of the early 70's JMPs go for over a grand (before they switched to the plastic on & standby switches - a '73 super just went for £1225 on ebay). I've just plugged it in and given it a blast (and scared the neighbours!) and it sounds fantastic so if it is worth around the £500 mark I'll hang onto it because it's the nicest Marshall I've owned and I've had a few!

best thing to do is bung it on ebay and see what you get. you can always pull it if it goes for pennies.

Yeah, I've thought about that... problem is I don't really want to sell it now, after just playing through it. Think I'll sleep on it!

Don't the seats of your Ford KA just drop down? Problem solved - you now have room in the car for it and don't need to sell it

I'll be honest and say I know next to nothing about plexis and their values but these boys like Timmyo, Nocaster and Shugz seem to know them inside out FWIW.

You might also want to drop it onto the Marshall forum as I am sure lots of other members might be able to help with a valuation or take it off you.

I'd SERIOUSLY hang on to it Chris if you can. I don't care too much for 'perceived' values etc, an item is only worth what someone will pay for it at the end of the day. That said, as we move further away from the build date of a lot of these amps, they will start to get a bit thinner on the ground. Obviously there's a lot more to any amp's value than just being scarce BUT an old Marshall like this with a lot of desirable attributes, in my opinion, will always have buyers waiting for it.

I'd say though it's value just now could be anywhere around the £450-650 mark BUT that's purely just my opinion and not saying that's what you should sell it for, you get a deal to suit you mate

    Cheers
    Hugh

I'd also correct that valuation by stating it could depend on what valves are fitted, old working Mullards (or similar) will push that price up too. Another trick, as you know, could be to punt the old valves and stick some new 'decent' new valves (JJ's etc) in it and get cash for the amp AND the old valves,

    Cheers

I think you're right Hugh, when you look at what £500 - £600 buys you these days in terms of new amps it puts it into perspective... I'm leaning towards keeping it, especially after playing through it last night... no valuable old Mullards in there unfortunately, just some Sveltanas but it still sounds great.

Only 2 of the band drive at the moment so I've got to fit a fair bit of gear and another body into the KA which is why I've bought a combo
