Default Low - Chilled out Electronica

    Hello hello,

I've been experimenting with really odd rhythms during the past few days, those kind of rhythms that really shouldn't work together but, weirdly, kind of do. Speeding up and slowing down arp and mod rates and things like that.

Did the writing in Reason, and made an effort to synthesise everything myself (getting bored of samples and patches), apart from the pad (thanks, BuddhaMachine). Whacked it into Cubase and did a bit of cutting up and brief mastering.

    It's here: http://www.itslukemoody.com/categories/music/

Let me know what you think

    Thanks,
    Luke.

I really enjoyed that. Normally glitchy, crackle-popping electronica makes me feel a bit edgy and nervouse, but that had a laid back beauty to it.

    Lovely.

    Cheers Mat

Glitch isn't usually my thing either, just turned out a bit that way. Thanks for listening!

Very nicely done Luke. I especially like the phased marimba-ey bit from about 3:00 on, very Steve Reich Continue messing about with things that shouldn't work, it's full of surprises!
Light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until they make a noise.

Nice track, very smooth and a great contrast of sounds and frequencies. And, for something made in Reason, it sounds so far removed and I'm not only impressed with this but also the level of detail in the piece.

On the production side of things I think the track could be a little louder, not to squish out the dynamics or anything but I did find it a little quiet. But the balance between all the sounds is good. I was going to suggest more oomph to the kick, but on reflection it doesn't need it. It has a comforting presence, and this, in other areas, is where my main criticism lies.

I realise that you have set a particular tone from the offset and you have done well to compliment and develop that tone. However, I feel it becomes a little too loop based throughout the early part. The slowing down and speeding up of arps and such creates a subtle edginess and I was just hoping that the glitch sounds would be a little more random to develop this idea. The particular sounds you've chosen are quite abstract (in a good way) but I personally felt they should have been a little more expressive and 'runaway'.

However, despite my criticisms I really did enjoy the track and I'm certainly keen on hearing more of your stuff so well done.
