Or can you suggest a tweak to the basic fuzz circuit which might accomplish what I want?
Yeh it's only 1 component that'll need to be changed. Let me tweak my circuit that's on a breadboard and I'll let you know.

    cheers!
It's exactly the opposite - the wee fuzz is DC socket only and no battery. So to answer the Q, yes there's a 2.1mm centre -ve socket included. They fit ay regular Boss-type PSU.

Thats great thanks very much.........If it helps the mic is a high impedance Green bullet mic....it may be that no gain at all would be appropriate I dunno - anyway the kinda sound I'm looking to get is fat and bassy, fuzzy and on the edge of breaking up

Re the DC socket.........I recalled that you miss one of them out but couldnt rem which it was hehe. Thats ok

As long as you remember to use your tongue to tell if it's on or not, you'll be fine!
    Blimey, that smarted.

More to the point, I've put it together and - Bloody hell, it worked first time...

Cheers Kev - top stuff ( and the instructions are now officially idiot-proof)

Right, time to get some paint methinks..

Oh right - I assumed I'd just missed it.
It's just that you've been very open that your learning on all this is relatively recent, and based mostly on all the pedalbuilder community resources, where lots of people give of their time and expertise and share information freely. Places like BYOC, DIYStompxes, Frestompboxes etc. Where it's the norm for derivative designs to eventually get shared among that community.
Ultimately it's your decision though, obviously.
    Red ones are better.

Yeh you're right. Most things do get passed around and I've no doubt this will be out for all to see soon enough. Probably when I get bored of it and move onto something else!

I'm tempted by one of these but a new amp comes first...

Those of you who like fuzzes that also clean up may also want to check out the Monsterpiece NPN. I'm regretting selling mine but I needed the moolah more than I needed fun fuzz...

Great demo - I'm very impressed with the way it cleans up.

Having said that Fuzz pedals confuse me (it's easily done!).

Most sound OTT to my ear and only really seem to work for Jack White impersonations (nothing wrong with that mind you).
However, occasionally I'll hear something that, despite the fuzz, sounds warm, syrupy and organic - more Black Crowes than White Stripes if you see what I mean.

    Edit:

Just checked Jackgear Blackmandude's YouTube demo of this - sounds good!

Similarly, most fuzz leaves me cold, but I found that I do quite like the Tonebender type

That was quite nice! It sounded fairly fuzzy but there still seemed to be more clarity and note definition than most fuzz sounds I'm used to.

Using my PodXT as an approximate guide, I much prefer the Fuzz Face effect to the Big Muff version. However I understand it gets much more confusing in the real world where all sorts of stuff like transistor type comes into play. I also read somewhere (can't remember where) that using a mains adapter made a certain fuzz pedal sound wrong/bad - IIRC, the fuzz in question had to be run off batteries as there was no 9v input!
