Setting the bias. Wee bit easier than the usual flimsy plastic pot.
It's a good idea but an odd feeling touching something metal in a valve amp when it's on.

I'm worried about you Kev - you've sold an amp you previously valued about your own liver for one that you haven't even tried or even read a review of?
When did you get this AAS? I remember you having the JVM setup for ages...then suddenly it's a new amp every week...what happened?
I'm sure the BS will be good though - it's what we've all been asking for...an HT amp with a reasonable number of watts!
Well.........where do I start.......
Ideally I would still have the JVM setup. It was ace and did everything I needed and would meet my needs perfectly now and as a result I regret ever selling it. However, it went because I was offered a 70's JMP at a good price and I couldn't (at the time) afford both. This particular JMP is a tone monster and I've been complimented numerous times on it. Only this week the guy in the studio where I practice was asking about it in fact. Anyway, that coupled with the £/euro rate at the time meant that I actually managed to MAKE MONEY by selling the JVM?! Odd but true.
Anyway, shortly after that happened the band I was in split up meaning that I didn't really have a purpose for the amps I had as at home I play through the PC or unplugged. Therefore I started buying stuff to try out. Literally. Up here we can't try Orange, Blackstar, Mesa, etc as there's no dealers with sufficient stock. One Orange dealer actually asked me to buy a Rockerverb head so I could try it out. I kid you not. They would not let me try one as they didn't have one so they asked me to pay for it before they would order it for me to try out. Anyway.............
So I went through about 12 amps during that band-free year before settling on the Martamp M50 that we see here. Don't get me wrong - the M50 is my dream amp. In summary, it's a late 60's plexi with modern reliability and an attenuator?! What's not to like about that!?!?!?
However, my current band plays a lot of pop stuff (Pink, etc) aswell as your classic rock (ACDC, etc) stuff. In addition to that we play some modern rock (Skunk Anansie, etc) and a few slow numbers. Basically I needed to take multiple amps into the shower to cover all bases. Not very sensible.
So I find myself at the Blackstar door again. If I had to list everything I need from an amp, the HT Venue ticks every box. Literally.
The Martamp has gone to a good friend in a deal that suits us both. The amp isn't leaving and I'll probably buy it back at some point. It's staying local and will always be within reach so the door's not shut for good.
Hopefully that clears things up.
