The little button switches from a choppy tremolo effect to a more rounded vibrato effect, gives a great variation of tones. And as Steve said, the volume control gives a good boost too, which is always useful as some cheaper tremolo pedals actually suffer an actual/perceived volume drop when switched on.
I'll second how great these are as I have one permanently wired in on my board.
