Default Which guitars are really outta fashion these days?

Hey there people! I was planning on buying a Fender Jazzmaster or something, and it really got me thinking. The prices of the Fender Jazzmaster, Jaguar and Mustang have skyrocketed these last years. Back in the early 90's, the alt. rock people would buy them for a penny since they were really "uncool".

And yet, here I am. A new classic Jazzmaster would cost me 800 pounds. A used one, maybe 400 if I'm lucky.

I've got a question for you guitarists who are wiser than me and know your stuff:
Which guitars are really out of fashion these days? Is there a specific shape/style of guitar that people view as uncool and will sell for cheap?

It seems that every single type of guitar gets good use! (I've pretty much come to the conclusion that most guitars would fit me, as long as they have a close to standard scale, a funny tremolo system and a neck that isn't thicker than 42 mm at the nut).

I'd agree with that, i picked up an 87 Charvel with floyd rose, decent enough condition for £68 a year or 2 back, 80's ones can be cheap.

A pedal board is not a pedal board unless you can mess with at least 5 octaves.

Alrighty then! So supertrats from the 80's are really unhot right now? http://dweezilzappaworld.com/images/..._Charvel_4.jpg (allow me to puke) Will keep an open eye then! The Charvel Surfcaster is still sexy though, or? Thanks for the tips, any other models?

Also: Moderators! I am terribly sorry, I intended to post this in the electric guitars forum! Feel free to move this thread there if you have the possibility. Cheers and thanks in advance.

Original Charvel Surfcasters are still well thought-of, but the Jackson ones (widely reported to be poor by comparison) are not.

If you're after something vaguely Jag-esque, have a look for an Ibanez Talman - original solid body ones, not the newer acoustics.

    This is true.

I live in a happy and now cheap world.

I've got a Kramer Nightswan in metallic purple - original asking price for this USA made, ebony fretboarded, compound radius'd USA made piece of kit - £1200+...I bought it for £400.

    Ah; Kramer.

If you live for hard rock, get a guitar made to rock hard. Kramer guitars are designed and built specifically for hard rock guitar players. They feature body design and construction, pickups, electronics and hardware for rock music. Some other guitars try to work for ALL kinds of music (country AND rock). That's impossible! Kramer does one thing and it does it well.

Incorrect. Have you ever played (or even seen) one of their aluminium-necked monstrosities? Believe me, they do absolutely nothing well, and that's even if you can pick one up.
