    Morning Samcin,
Simple set the amp speaker Z switch to 16 Ohms, same for the cab, plug into the relavent jacks...rock and roll!

Even if you get it wrong, most unlikely to hurt anything, not happened yet AFAIK.

    Dave.

MUST use speaker cable, not a guitar lead.

"MUST use speaker cable, not a guitar lead."

Very true. Not because they won't work but mainly because the inner core is usually very light gauge wire and could burn out, unliklely but possible I suppose with a 100watter say, especially running a 4 Ohm load (5amps'ish of current). This would open circuit the amps output, worse case scenario!

Mention is often made of the (harmful) high capacitance of signal cables. Tis high re a "mains wire" speaker lead but still so low as to cause no trouble at all to any 1/2 decent valve amp. Do not be so cavalier with solid state amps however, especially older ones.

I've actually seen a curly guitar cable melted when used to connect a Marshall 100W valve bass amp to a 4-ohm cab. Luckily, it shorted rather than going open circuit and just blew the amp's fuse. Initially the customer only brought in the amp, which had 'just stopped working' - blown HT fuse, which was the first thing I checked. I replaced the fuse and couldn't find anything else wrong with the amp, so I asked him to check his speaker cab and cables in case there was a fault with one of them, and he went back out to his car and brought in the fried cable! It was discoloured right along its length and actually bubbled in a few places, metered a dead short, and when I cut a bit of it open to check it was completely melted inside.

You should be able to buy a proper speaker cable at any decent guitar shop. If you know a tech or can solder (well) yourself, you can also make them from 1/4" plugs (Neutrik preferred) and 2-core mains cable, which is also designed to handle the same sort of current.
