    Default TVs LCD Or Plasma

We're just about to move into our first house, and are looking at TVs, though it'll be more for films and/or games than TV. Size wise will be between 37" and 42". Would we be better looking at LCD or Plasma at this size?

Plasma has better colour, contrast and motion handling. LCD is cheaper and uses less power.

Every blind test confirms this - LCD can't compete in terms of image quality.

Image retention and burn-in are irrelephant for your application.

Panasonic are the best option. LG aren't bad.

    Plus one.

The LED LCDs are a great improvement on the ones with the old light sources but I've yet to see one that could complete with my Panasonic Plasma. LCD's always look grainy and prone to image smear.

The reviews put the Philips LCDs right up there with the now discontinued Pioneer KURO plasmas. Lots of dosh though.

There is a £550 Samsung that has aweome reviews all over the place.

Whatever you get - learn to set it up properly. They all come set up for bright shop shelf use and look bloody awful.

Absolutely - LCD has improved enormously over the last 5 years and the LED backlit sets are a big step forwards.

Ayup. Plasmas tend to have better scalers and thus deal with SD sources far better.

LCDs have come along way in the past 18 months and although I agree with the mighty Spork there are some LCDs IMO that match plasma for PQ, trouble is they are 2-3 times the price.

Plasma is certainly my next choice in TV which fingers xxxd ill con the wife into getting before the new baby boy comes along in August..

To be honest, though, the Kuros were never a match for the Pana Vieras - but Pioneer were a lot keener on schmoozing.

LCD cannot match plasma for image quality - there are basic laws of physics in the way.

Which 'uns? I'm genuinely curious, 'cos I really ought to have a look at them.

Plus it's a Phillips. Which gives you a chance to start thinking about what you'll replace it with in 14months time when it stops working.
