I was under the impression that a "pump" was more akin to a plimsole, with a light canvass top on a relatively thin rubber sole, or to a dancing shoe.

Sneakers? The less said about that word the better, you should be ashamed.

trainers & brands. I go to the running shop, get on the treadmill, let the bloke who knows his stuff make a recommendation, check me wallet and buy a pair regardless of brand. Last few have been Asics. I don;t think you can generalise and say any one brand is better than another, entirely personal.

I do have a soft spot for retro classic trainers though. Got loads of obscure Adidas in hard to find colours and that. Once got some orange and turquoise Samoas which seemed a good idea at the time. Funnily enough, they;'ve not been out much. Nike Cortez are OK too. Bought some Gola Harrier anniversary editions a couple of years ago - how on earth anyone could run any distance in them though...Again, they were in a (with hindisght) hideous colour, and ended up in the bin. ROyal blue leather I think....urgh...

Converse, loves em. DO they pass the "guitarist forum chic awards"?

Well, whilst you're quite right and wearing trainers as an everyday thing does look rubbish, they just feel wrong to me. They make me feel like I should be running everywhere in them, and the Lord knows that just isn't going to work. For the same reason big fat trainers feel weird unless I'm riding a bike. If I'm not training, why wear trainers?

I will conceed that the old Adidas Sambas are quite nicely designed, and that an old canvas pair of vans or similar is handy to have in summer, but the people who walk around all day in bright green Nike Airs is just something I'll never understand.
