    Default washing machine crapness

calgon my arse. In this house a washing mc has a life expectancy of no more than 4 years. The bearings have just gone in the current one which means that it now "sings" on the spin cycle.

Once again the Devil shits in my teapot, anyone for a spare £300 lying about the place?

We gave up buying cheap washing machines a long while back after going through a succession of nasty Hoovers, Indesits and Candys...they are a false economy IMO. We lashed out £800 on a Miele..it came with a 10 year warranty as standard. It's now 12 years old and never had a thing go wrong with it, even though it gets used at least 5 times a week. (Used to be every day when the kids were smaller)

The salesman in John Lewis told my missus at the time " this is not just a washing machine madam, it's a god".
I'm fed up with people joking about dyslexia. It's not big and it's not furry.

We bought a lower priced one a few years back and paid £100 for the extended 5 year warranty.
It broke down once after about three years and they replaced the pump on it the next day under the warranty. We got about 7 years out of it in the end.

My sister's machine went belly-up late last year. The saleswoman did say about new one's they're not expected to work for more than 4-5 years. That's just crap.

Buy a quality brand and the things last. Candy/Indesit/Hoover etc are all made using largely the same parts and down to a price. This does mean that it can be simple to fix the things, but they tend to break a lot.

I'd second the recommendation of a Miele machine. Some serious engineering goes into those things.

If you shell out for a Miele make sure you pay for them to put it in place and fit it for you. They have much more concrete in them to dampen the vibration better so they weigh a LOT more

Have you had a quote for a repair? The bearings went on my machine about five years ago and it costs £75 to repair. It didn't take long to fix either so bertie could be right - you might be able to do it yourself.

We have a Dyson washing machine. It has never failed us at all in the 8yrs that we've had it*. It is *huge* (can wash a superkingsize duvet no worries).

*Aside from this winter when everything in the garage froze solid...and then we just poured boiling water into it till it defrosted.
