I've done the Northwich to Stockport run a few times in the car and it's not too bad. I don't recall sitting traffic for any real length of time.

I'm guessing that the Hartford/Manchester route will be fairly similar.

Sad, because the moor is a great place - I love the view down into Wessenden Valley.
It's one of our favourite dog walking areas actually- the series of Reservoirs both at Wessendon and Dovestones are always worth a trek.

I agree about the slight sour note regarding the area though, Whenever I drive over the road from the Oldham area towards Holmfirth I never fail to think of the remains out there somewhere..

I wouldn't live in Glossop if you paid me. Traffic's a bloody nightmare.

We had a look at Glossop a while ago when we were viewing some houses in Marple Bridge. I like it over that way but it's too far from where our various close family members live (Winsford, Middlewich, Crewe, Cheadle), so we've ruled it out.

We're moving back to Cheshire to be near to them again, so it seems silly to be an hour's drive from some of them at the weekend. We want to be able to nip 'round to them, and them to us.

Indeed. It seemed that when we had breakfast in Marple, they were all talking about the posh gits in Marple Bridge, while three hours later while we were having lunch in Marple Bridge, they were bemoaning the backward chavs from up the hill.

I'd have thought that with Jack Frost policing the area, it would be a joy to reside there.
