Anybody own property in France?
I'm seriously considering a permanent move.
Any legal issues worth considering?
So far the favourite is Aveyron for the price/location compromise.
MY boy is nearly two years old and we're planning another soon so schooling will be another issue in the next few years.

No idea about the legal issues (sorry) but a little insight into the French education system due to going to a French school for a couple of years. My experience of French school was good - I went knowing zero French but came out fluent. Your sprog(s) should pick it up really quickly due to a: age b: immersion in the language.
As to the system itself, we had the choice of putting in for the English A level/GCSE route or the bac - the English system was reserved for the kids who weren't as bright and my folks were told we'd do the bac.

My advice would be to find a very good lawyer who can help you through everything you need over there. There are some weird laws which have caught expats out before especially with housing and legal ownership.

Absolutely! Luckily a friend of my old man runs a business out there moving us Brits into France so I've got a good starting point!
This is a reality check for me. Where I live a standard 3/4 bed semi in a decent location is £400-700k, and much more if you stay central.

My folks live near Montaubon in Tarn-et-Garonne which is the Department to the West of Aveyron. It sure is a beautiful part of the world. Plus you're handy for Rodez airport for cheapo RyanAir flights back to Stansted if you want to come back and visit us!

No. - Technically the UK has a claim on Aquitaine. So the best way to annoy a Frenchman is to remind them of this!
