I suppose it's unfair to judge him against Bon, but that's the job he took, and it's to be expected.

It just seems that, as well as the evident gulf in singing talent between the two men, Bon's charisma left a huge hole in AC/DC when he died.
I have to agree with you - however, everyone that I have met who came to AC/DC after Back In Black prefer Brian Johnson. Which I just don't understand.
When I was pushing for more 'DC in the band, Monica was very curious as to why I only wanted to do Scott era stuff - she didn't get it. And neither did Fluffy our bassist - they have both never really listened to much DC.

I enjoy songs from all era of AC/DC, and whilst the albums are less consitent with Johnno, that might just be because they have been around a lot longer with him than without, rather than Johnno being the reason for the drop in quality.

However, I think he's a great frontman for 'DC and, really, when I think of AC/DC, I think of the BJ fronted version as the "real" AC/DC. I know that's sacriledge to many fans, but I think Bon Scott's death has elevated his status a little too much. Great as he was, he wasn't the greatest singer in the world.

You are of course right, RnRD.

You'd have to be daft or deaf to say Bon was the greatest ever singer. That title surely has to go to Carl Wilson.

    I digress.

What Bon was the greatest at was singing AC/DC songs. The drop in quality can't be laid solely at the feet of BJ. But he had a part to play, not least of all due to the fact that he's not as good a songwriter as Bon was. And as I said above, there's a blatant gulf in charisma between the two men. Death has elevated Bon's status, as it has done for John Lennon, Hendrix, SRV, Buddy Holly et al, but they were great before they died, not because they died.

I'm not the biggest AC/DC fan in the world, but I prefer Brian

Not the greatest singer but one of the greatest frontmen IMHO. And I'm one of the people who "came" to AC/DC post Back In Black.

I think I'm gay for Bon.

I can remember someone saying that BS had the "sleaziest" voice in rock n' roll. Which I thought was about right....and certainly not a bad thing.

I prefer sound of the songs in the Bon Scott period. I try not to listen to the lyrics in ACDC songs as they just get excruciating but the guitars have remained fantastic.

I have to hope that Bon would have stopped Angus wearing that bloody schoolboys outfit by now
