Daglish was never going to get the job, he is not a yes man, unlike Hodgson who will remain silent when the yanks sell the best players at the club to reduce the debt.

If Gerrard, Torres, Mascherano, Kuyt etc do leave then Liverpool will struggle to stay in the top half of the league full stop. This saga has echo's of what happened to Newcastle and look where they ended up, admittedly only for a season but still....

Think all Liverpool fans should boycott their season tickets and start to hurt the yanks financially, at least put the pressure on them to sell and piss off.

I would sell Gerrard. He is getting injured too frequently and is not the force he was.
After his display for England he is slightly pasti it and not worth his money
Torres is a great player but again frequenlty injured - a good deal might release some money for younger players

Liverpool are deep in debt and need to raise some cash to ease the situation.
Hodgson is a very experienced manager who I think could do a job for a limited period of time given his age

Yeah I agree Matt, it is a carbon copy of the Newcastle incident, and I know first hand.

Managerial troubles leading to bad performance, leading to players leaving, with massive debt problems and dickish owners.

They should use the Toon as an example of what not to do. Sort it out before it becomes a problem.

I'm not fussed either way, I don't like Liverpool

Would be nice to see Tottenham classed as the 4th 'big 4' member officially.

Which if recent history is anything to go by, will result in the manager being sacked for not bringing in instantaneous results. I don't make much of a secret of not being all that into football, but even I can see that most clubs have got it WAY wrong, it takes time for a manager to settle in to any job in any industry, they have to get used to the nuances of the new place and gain the respect of the employees before they can start to bring in their own touch and start making an impact. The clubs don't let them have anywhere near enough time to get into their stride.

Congratulations, you just became the new manager of England!

I quite agree, the rumour that Fergie would be got rid of in 1990 after less than 4 years in charge of United has always floated about as he hadn't won anything since his appointment. Beating Notts Forest very narrowly in the FA Cup and then maintaining a winning run to the Final was apparently all that stopped the board from sacking him.

However, looking at the side he inherited (oldish and not particularly motivated, and for the most part involved in the '80s drinking culture of footballers) and the young players he was bringing in, you can see that instant results weren't possible but that the foundations for the future sucesses were being laid (including top notch scouting and training)...

It seems stupid to not give a manager of a failing club at least a few years to fix whatever problems there are, but this is what big money Premier League has resulted in.
It's not your job to be as confused as me! :?

How much is/was Capello in? £6m a year or something like that? Hell, even if I only lasted a year before getting the boot, I'd still be VERY comfortable!

sounds like Shteve Maclaren to me.
Same Shteve Mclaren who just won FC Twente's first ever Eredivisie? Same Shteve Mclaren who just won Dutch manager of the year?

Hodgson is a good solid manager. He's never won the Champions' League but he's done a fair bit with his career and is a decent gamble.
