I can really only comment about Logic, these days, as products like
DP4 and Cubase have evolved a lot since I last used them and I haven't
kept a close eye on all the features.

I do know Logic has the best MIDI functionality, plus there is nothing
quite like the Environment which can do some very interesting
    routing of MIDI data.

I am getting the Logic Pro upgrade, which is my move from Logic Gold
to Platinum. I think if you have the money, you shoud buy right into
Logic Pro with the large collection of very powerful software instruments
and FX. Express has the EXSP-24 and EVp-73 which are OK, but you
lose many featues of the environment and a lower track count.

I would pop over to Emagic's website and look at the Logic comparison
chart so you can see what the 2 versions have to offer.

    Hi Rachel,
    I just ordered Logic Pro.
I also order the Apple Pro Training Logic 6 manual.
    Hope this'll do....
I am still afraid but also excited.
Are a Powerbook G41,25GHz and 512Mo enough for projects which usually consist of 12 stereo tracks + 12 MIDI tracks (I use an external FW800 HD) ?

Your powerbook should be more than capable of handling that workload.
My system is the G4/500 Dual desktop and can cope with similar loads.

I would recommend getting a dedicated external FW disk for your audio projects.
This will increase the track count andtake the load off your system disk.

In fact, what I do is to have a disk called "Projects" mounted, that contains all
audio files, MIDI data and configs for each Logic project.

Then I use the Logic Project manager to convert each Song into a Project, that lives
on my Projects disk. It's easy to back up this way and provides a self contained
environment that you can use to just take the disk to another Logic workstation,
mount it up and keep working!

If you get to it, you may want to add some extra RAM as well. You've picked a really
reliable and powerful portable setup - good luck!

    Hi Rachel,
I already have an external 250GB FW800 HD so I guess it'll do
About the RAM, I'll wait a few months untils these 1GB sticks get cheaper because 4xthe price of a 256MB is just too much.
Anyway, thanks for your help, it's not the first time you are so kind with me and my stupid questions

Agree with martin Logic's inteface is easy to learn. has depth and is more logical than Cubase. Protool Le + Mbox would also be good alternative just add midi interface if needed.
