Default Controller pedals and the singer-songwriter

I play songs solo, mainly on acoustic guitar. I’ve been wanting to introduce some beats and electronics into some songs and have been checking out a few options for live playing using foot pedals.

Initially, I was thinking of a cheap drum machine and footswitch. The Zoom RT223 appeals, mainly because it has a nice mix of acoustic and electronic drumsounds, has a selection of bass sounds and has some pitch editing capabilities. (Though probably not as much as I’d like – the specs only say “fine tuning” whereas I really like being able to properly muck about with pitch of drum sounds.) But I like simple, I like old school, and I quite like the idea of working with the limitations of a little box.

Then I started thinking and wondered if – seeing as I already use my iBook for recording and some programming in Cubase – there was any footswitch controller I could use to trigger a soft drum machine, or preprogrammed stuff in Cubase or Garageband, on my iBook. A friend suggested the Behringer Midi foot controller, FCB1010. I’d imagine I’d be able to do a lot more with this set-up. I’m basically thinking about using it to trigger droning synth noises, maybe trigger the occasional loop, maybe use the expression pedals to bring filters up or down on them. I have the M-Audio Omni Studio breakout box which I think has a MIDI connection, so I don’t I’d have problems setting the pedal up. It’s more a question of how difficult it is assigning these sort of tasks to the pedals in Cubase,

Both options would cost about the same amount of money. any thoughts?

This is a link to a pc editor for the FCB1010
    http://www.mtnsys.com/faq-fcb/PCEditorBeta.htm

I'm fairly sure you can only generate CC and program change data with the pedal, where as most software I have played with uses a midi note command to start and stop. So I'm not sure you can do what you want.

But, this editor software allows easy acces to set up the fcb1010.

You need to found out if you can trigger the loops etc with a cc or program change command
