    That's a stage monitor, one of the old US-made Peaveys - if the guy says it works okay it'd be worth it just to be getting on with, they made solid if boring gear back in the day!

    At the end of the day mate, for home practice that'll be fine but if you plan on using it for band practice at some point then (as you stated previously) you will end up buying something again later.

    Whilst I agree that dedicated drum monitors are overpriced, they are the best option. The best are the Roland PM-3 and PM-30; however, you can get a Roland PM10, and these are around £130 new but, you can get one of these on Ebay second hand for less than £100 and that would be exactly what you need and would meet all your home requirements.

    I use a Roland PM01 for jhome use and for it's diminutive size it does a greaqt job - not for gigging though.
    Rock and roll ain't noise pollution...
