    Default sampling hand drum

Any tips on how to sample a djembe - african skin drum?

I have a load of software - soundforge, ableton, cubasis, fls, but I do not have a mic or a recording sound card.

can anyone give me a few tips on how to do it, and is it worth getting a second hand mic to do it? what stuff would I need? the drum is a small one, does the mic need to go into the drum?

It would be to sample played loops, rather than isolating, but I guess I can cut them later if I wanted single beats.

    I would not want

    thanks

Have no experiance with that drum but id say Youd need a dynamic mic placed overhead about 20-30cm from skin. just try diff positions under, over, left, right till you think it sounds best.

but yeah youd need a sound card and some sofware to recored it.

the best bet is to stick a mic at the bottom of the Djembe and when you play it have it tilting towards you, get good results like that.. if using two mics put one overhead too. But just experiment you know what kind of sound you want!
