    This, or Neil Young's 'Weld'.

Actually, I might prefer Live Rust to Weld, but Weld has the greatest electric guitar sound known to man.

I read somewhere (maybe the biography "Shakey") that the CD version of Weld is not the Version that NY wanted to put out and that the only place to get the mix he and David Briggs intended to release is on the VHS and Laserdisc.

I don't think Weld has ever made it to DVD. I do have the VHS but my DVD recorder will not let me burn it because of some inbuilt copy protection

Still, I also like the CD as released. I've yet to hear the "Arc" disc that came with the early versions and have never quite had the courage to fork out for a "feedback collage"

    +1.

Amazing playing. Polite applause at the end of a thunderous rock song is also amusing!

    Surprised no-ones mentioned
AC/DC - If You Want Blood
Whitesnake - Live in the Heart of the City

I picked up the VHS of Weld in a charity shop recently. I love the album so for 50p I was chuffed (we still have a functioning video player). They really should bring out a DVD, it's great.

Arc is bizarre, think I only listened to it once, and even then I kept skipping though it.

Anyway +1 to Weld, think I actually prefer that to Live Rust. Ragged Glory was the first Neil Young album I bought so those songs are always a favorite of mine.

Ragged Glory is a fantastic album.
Ironically, it, and most Neil Young studio albums, are probably a lot more "live" than many others' live albums (Live and Dangerous, Unleashed in the Studio etc.)

the best live album is Taj Mahal live at Filmore East (The Real Thing) it's better than most studio albums. The dynamic range achieved for a live album is just sublime and audio recording quality is flawless - and no bloody overdubs!! (plus some of the finest musicians in the world such as Howard Johnson on sax)

Taj Mahal – Vocals, blues harp, chromatic harmonica, National steel-bodied guitar, five-string guitar, fife
Howard Johnson – Tuba (BB♭, F), baritone saxophone, brass arrangements
Bob Stewart – Tuba (CC), flugelhorn, trumpet
Joseph Daley – Tuba (BB♭), valve trombone
Earle McIntyre – Tuba (E♭), bass trombone
    Bill Rich – Electric bass
John Simon – piano, electric piano
    John Hall – Electric guitar
    Greg Thomas – Drums
    Kwasi "Rocky" DziDzournu – Congas

    sorry, it aint rock tho.

i'd put the original Live at Leeds after that (not the laughably dire modern version)

I don't understand that "Live and Dangerous" and "Unleashed" etc can be sold as Live albums when there's so much done in the studio......
Surely a "Live" album should be a warts'n'all record of a gig, or songs recorded infront of an audience, and not altered in a studio?

You make a very, very good point there.

I agree with Mike.L above too - how on earth can they get away with releasing live albums that ain't live?!
