Jan Akkerman was quoted as saying the Tielmans were the inspiration behind him getting the Black Les Paul used in Focus, long before he heard EC use one with John Mayall on "that" album. Brainbox are the first rock band I became aware of (looking into the pre-Focus bands of Jan Akkerman and Pierre Van Der Linden). I think JA used a Gretsch first then various Fenders (pre Focus and Brainbox) before the Les Paul though.
