BTW I have met several people who had a view that "hi-fi" is pointless and my experience tells me that 20 minutes listening is enough to convince anybody that really great 2 channel audio is about as pointless as really great sex.

Hmmm...... Just had a quick look at Rocker's recent posts - I see what you mean. I dismissed all the tweak ideas years ago but sadly it was after I had allowed a friend of mine to paint a green plastic rim on about 50 of my cd's.

Take the guy who posted his take on Sweet Child o Mine for example. He was given real help by a few posters and was subject to scorn or bullying by a lot of other posters. Look the guy was doing his best, clearly he needed some guidance [which he got] so why not leave it at that.

Giving him the benefit of the doubt, and assuming that he really was doing his best...the guy who posted that thread needs to try a lot harder. If there were replies fluffing his ego and telling him his playing was great, he'd never gather the impetus to improve. Did you even watch any of his other videos? They were, without exception, almost identical to the behaviour of a 5yr old who picks up his dad's guitar and starts thrashing around on it, and that was consistent over 6 months' worth of "learning". It's not difficult to see why people came to the conclusion that he was trolling.

The fact that almost everybody on this forum (including a number of experts) disagree with you on your "factual" posts indicates several points - for starters, you have no basis in actual scientific fact to support your arguments, whereas they do. Secondly, when they suggest alternatives, you get huffy and post something like this thread. Lastly, everybody responds with humour because most people on here are friends and enjoy a good laugh.

Put simply, if you had the courage of your convictions (and have no fear of posting stuff that "goes against the grain" as you put it), you'd be able to handle the inevitability of being the butt of the joke, in the same way that Creationists are to the scientific community. Of course, if you were right, you'd be able to prove a measurable and significant improvement with a quantitative analysis - that would solve all of your problems right there.

Assuming the SCOM chap is genuine, I thought that thread was a bit unpleasant and alpha-male. Still not cyber-bullying, though, and a bit of good-natured ribbing over ludicrous audiophile homeopathy is even further from cyber-bullying.

I think the point is, everyone should be prepared to stand by whatever they say here and elsewhere online as if it were a pub.

And if it was a friend of mine playing that song or talking shite about electrical sockets in the pub, I would say exactly the same things as I have here.
