    Default Soooo......

I just watched some more Paco de Lucia live and am wondering why I bother haha. Electric guitars, amps, oodles of pedals and the quest for "tone" and the man sits there with just a nylon strung acoustic and nobody can come close. Once saw a video of poor old Jan Akkerman (who was/is certainly no slouch or numpty on the old gee-tar) trying to jam with Paco and, putting Akkerman's horrible tone aside, he never even got near Paco's level. I think at best there was a fleeting glimpse of curiosity from Paco for about 2 seconds to suggest "what was that?"..... and then he blitzed him.

    Hello Alex

    I don't really get it.
Why would seeing Paco de Lucia do what he does on a classical/flamenco guitar make you want to quit (not too seriously, I'm sure, lol) playing electric guitar?

I see where you're coming from but it's just something about being able to sit down with nothing but a guitar and fingertips to make the sound, rather than me spending years playing with amps, effects pedals, different pickups, different string gauges. It's just guitar music in it's purest form and no hiding behind distortion or funny noises with a whammy pedal or suchlike.

    apples / oranges +1.

It's difficult to compare players unless they're playing the same pieces, on the same kit, in the same way.

Effects are options, and like most options - don't always require to be taken. Maybe he'd be amazing if he used slight delay on some of his passages? Who knows.

I thought that was what you meant.
I was just being argumentative, in a nice way though.
