    Yamaha DT Explorer - http://www.dv247.com/invt/25491/

I've played on this one before and I remember being quite impressed with its responsiveness...If you had a bit more cash I'd advise getting a Roland V-Drums kit (I suppose you could get V-Drums Lite, but...nah) but they can run into the thousands of pounds.

Also looking for a kit! As far as have been told, some of the new budget kits (not ION or Alesis) are pretty good. There are session pro which are arouned £350 and a kit from sound academy called Legacy dd502 (£250!) which are pretty much the same as the session.

I want one just to generate midi to record and I have been told these new budget kits fit the bill nicely. I'm sure the Yamaha is better but meybe you don't need to spend as much as you thought?

Obviously make sure it has midi out if you want to record the output (some don't). Also check that the bassdrum and hihat pedals seem sturdy - heard tales that some break very easily. I have been trying to decide between an 8 channel soundcard or a midi kit - but I think the midi kit is the way to go.

Incidently: there is a free version of BFD on the fxpansion site that is a full kit and very good as a vst plugin.

It depends on what you want to do with it and how much space you have. For most playing/recording needs those octopad type devices (like the Rolands) will do nicely. If you want the feel of real drums you have the Alesis DM sets upwards (I have the DM Pro, noisey to play but very very good imo). Roland, Nord and Yamaha seem to make the best kits from what I've read, but you'd need a fair wedge to get a decent Yammy iirc and the Nord is expensive (if its still going).

It has to be Roland mate every time, you can get the cheaper ones or go up to two grand. Check out the Roland website. to be honest ive played a lot of em and the rubber pads are crap, but do the job, you just cant beat the mesh heads, if your gonna spend a grand or so, wait another six months get another grand a splash out on a Td 12. You wont regret it.
