I don't doubt he was a great drummer, or that individually Bruce and Clapton were great musicians too. But personally I feel that Cream were massively over-rated as a band - most of their output was derivative, half their songwriting is poor bordering on laughable, and they ended up falling back on extended blues soloing of distinctly variable quality (OK, *sometimes* great...). They *did* write a small handful of great songs, true - and I do like them - but I just don't think they deserved the name "Cream", let alone should have had the arrogance to call themselves that. (And they really did mean it as "we are the cream of the British blues scene", apparently.)

Compared to the colossal originality and genius of Hendrix and the Experience (even if Jimi was by far the driving force, the other members certainly contributed) they're distinctly second rate.

There, I said it... flame suit now on! I don't hate Clapton, I don't worship Hendrix, and I have all the albums by both bands. And it is just my opinion .
