That's crazy. I'd never heard of Music Ground dealing in conterfeits before though.

Looking at home, that filing box reads 'JMI Mail Outs'. Surely that confirms that the picture was at least taken in a Music Ground Office?

Googling this - it seems that there is one story that is reproduced on many fora, but no links to any non forum thread articles.

Could this be the work of someone pissed off with Musicground, or is it for real?

The Dumble fakery is news to my ears, but the Marshall fakery is very well known. But you're right that Web mentions of this activity are limited to forums (LPF, Plexi Palace, etc, etc). Not sure where else you'd expect to read about it? I know of one case directly (the victim is a very good friend and collector), and that was discovered after MG had the rep.

I've heard the rumours for years and because of them I wouldn't buy from them, but I've never seen an official report.

Who are the proper owners of the shop? I can access plenty of case law websites that might have reports and have a look.
The Reverend Lord Henry was not one of those new-fangled parsons who carry the principles of their vocation uncomfortably into private life.

It just never gets that far. It's not that big a news story (not like art and antique forgeries). I did wonder if Leeds Trading Standards got enough complaints to do something? However, I know that a lot of victims were outside the UK.

The one case I know directly about was a '60s 18W combo. MG sent a set of photos of the amp to the buyer in Europe. Everything checked out, and the buyer bought the amp on the strength of the photos.

But the amp that turned up was different. Close enough to fool an uninformed buyer. The photos that had been sent to get the sale had been 'borrowed' from the 18W forum. They were of a genuine 18W which the owner had snapped inside and out and uploaded to the gallery.

Worse still, not only was it a different amp, but it was clearly one that had been made rather recently, and using various bits of old Marshalls. (At the time, you could look at MG's Ebay purchases and see them buying up any British amp/board/etc that would yield the necessary caps, resistors, nuts, bolts, etc.)

The buyer pulled MG up on it and eventually got his monery back.

Presumably, some other unfortunate has that amp now.
