Default Headphones - sound in only one ear...module broken?

    Hey all,
I'm a newbie to drums of all kind. Yesterday I bought a used Yamaha DTX 2.0 for my 11-year-old son for Christmas. I'm slowly finding out that the guy was less than honest. I can only get sound to come out of one side of the headphones, I've tried 2 pairs. Does that mean the module is broken? Any way to fix it? By the way, when I say "newbie" to drums, I really mean it. I didn't know what a hi-hat was until a week ago..no joke. Would sure appreciate your help. If the module is bad do I just throw out the whole system and start over?
    Thanks, Deanna

Most likely the headphones are busted

Or perhaps you're plugging a stereo set of headphones into a mono output, which will usually result in sound out of the left speaker.

I actually used 3 different sets of headphones, the last pair being a nice Bose headset. I tested the Bose to be sure it was stereo before plugging it in. I plugged the headphones into the back of the module, in the port that says, "PHONES". Any other suggestions?
