    Default Vintage Carlsbro Valve Head

    Hi all,

To make room for some recent GAS-ing, I think its time my wonderful old late 60s/early 70s Carlsbro Valve head was moved on. *Finally* folks are waking up to how good these old amps were - don't confuse them with the cheapo stuff that gave the brand a bad name in recent years, this thing is hand made, with a tone you cannot get from modern amps.

Its a PA60R - thats right... a PA amp. BUT as a guitarist, this is GOOD. If you like to use pedals to get your distortion/overdrive, but like using tubes to get the fatness, warmth and tone (like Gilmour etc) then you need to check these out. On its own, it will not overdrive with my Strat - chuck the volume over halfway and then shove a tubescreamer in front of it and you have a warm, fat tone - couple that to the superb on-board reverb (full size accutronics tray... more reverb than you'll ever need - and deeper than my old Twin Reverb) and its really inspring.

The amp is completely original - all the transformers etc are still original... VERY important on vintage amps as modern transformers aren't quite the same... The valves are old - not sure if they are the originals (actually I doubt it) and if I were keeping it, I'd be searching out some new EL34s to keep her going for years to come.

As you can see the covering is torn on the corners, the mains switch has had the end broken (but still works fine) and some of the "Smartie" inlays in the knobs are missing.

Before I stick it on ebay, I'll offer it here first. The prices of these old amps are on the up - so it could be a shrewd investment.... so anyone who can put £200 plus postage in my hand can be this amp's new custodian. I'm based in Daventry, Northants if you want to collect it/try it out - or I could meet you at a motorway service station (within reason) in return for some petrol funds if you don't want the postage hassle/fees (it will cost more than a 2nd class stamp to send, I'm afraid!). Any questions... fire away.

    A piccie for your delectation...

those are amazing amps for the price. I used to have one myself without the reverb.

Thanks for the offer... if it had been a Strat neck I would have been quite interested in some kind of trade.

Last bump before the dreaded bay of E.

Interested in trades - I likes Fendery type guitars, or maybe something oddball. WHY?

I can send this anywhere in the world (at cost - just the cost, nowt more) and it has a voltage selector on the back so could be used anywhere in the world.
