I'm prospecting on audio interfaces for exactly the same setup as Mirko, so thanks everyone for contributing!

I'm sure now that if in doubt, the MOTU will always be a good choice (those tiny meters on the mkII make me almost wish for a mkI...) !

I must admit for THIS price, I might as well buy two and still be way under the MOTU's price, have four good mic inputs, 4 MIDI ports, 4 line-ins... who could ask for more?
I had a look a the test-link, but the only thing I could understand from this kind of information is the first panel, filled with "excellent" about almost everything... ops:

I'd like to hear it and see it in action, so I'll ask around, but the price is soooo low, it's impressive...

No problemo 8)


This tells how accurately the QF recognizes frequencies : you can see that it is very flat on the whole audible spectrum with perhaps more in the higher end than in the lower (things may sound a little brighter but we're only below a tenth of decibel !)


This shows that whatever noise is added to the sampled signal will remain below the audible level (hearing it would be like hearing musicians'eyelids while the whole orchester would play Carmina Burana).


The dynamic range means the difference between the loudest and the lowest sound.
There's just a strange artefact around 1000Hz (telephone voice main frequency) but it could be due to the measuring device.
You want this one to be the highest possible and you indeed have around 120dB which is excellent (an Audio CD... 16bit sound require 96dB, 24bit require 144dB but you'd have to spend a fortune and you would not be able to hear it)


This shows the way the card will generate supplemental parasitic harmonics for each of the recorded frequence. As you can see, this is amazingly clear.


IMD shows the distorsion induced by the device itself, not depending on the signal. at 0,003%, you are happy.


Stereo crosstalk describes the way each of the channel of a stereo signal might influence the other.
We are a lot below 90dB here which means that unless some of your channels are totally blanks and you want to record their blankness, you will also be really happy.

Phew... Acoustics 101 in English, quite a premiere for me.

Tja, Kraftwerk. Da müsste ich in den nächsten Plattenladen (so altmodisch bin ich, music online herunterladen ist mir vollends unbekannt... und irgendwie komisch) und mir die neue Platte anhören. Ich habe allen Respekt (geht gar nicht anders) vor ihrer Pionier-Arbeit, aber ihr doch schwer faschistisch angehauchtes Auftreten war mir nie so ganz sympathisch... Ich hör mich mal auf dem Netz um, was man von ihrer heutigen Musik und ihrer live-Qualität sagt. Plätze sind ja noch für beide Abende, wie ich durch dein link erfuhr, zu haben!
