Eric Roche has some of that percussive stuff in the Acoustic Guitar Bible - which is a very good book - triple thumbs up.

I've been looking into PReston Reed and Michael Hedges.

    WOW!

Both are very impressive I must say, although my preference goes to Reed.

Given that there have been Hedges articles in the past it would be cool if GT did something more along the lines of a PReston Reed Master Class or song.

For me, I enjoy guitarists who can use percussive and 'alternative' techniques to enhance their music in context, rather than using it as a gimmick. Eric Roche, Thomas Leeb, Jacques Stotzem, Antonio Forcione, etc. all play music; it just so happens that they have some incredible techniques at their disposal. A monologue of flashy moves without a musical foundation or substance just bores me stupid.

:? that goes for most people. But there are elements of playing that involve showmanship.

Most people would like to know where to begin in learning percussive methods and the like and Guitar Techniques sounds like a title that might be good for relaying this kind of information, I asked MCN but they said they were not going to cover that until 2006.
