Default Eric Roche Tribute GT Cover?

How about Guitar Techniques magazine put Eric Roche on the cover of an upcoming issue together with a transciption of one of his tracks?

You could never justify doing it with a mag like Total Guitar, or even Guitarists, which relies on having a "name" player on the cover to help sell it.

Guitar Techniques is different though. 2 of the most recent issues haven't had any player on the issue, simply a pair of anonymous hands. So it's not like it would affect sales for that month.

To me, it would be the ultimate tribute to Eric. He contributed to GT for many years and it was his acoustic transciptions and CD performances that truly set the magazine from any guitar magazine on the planet. Acoustic players would buy GT solely to have one of his transciptions - something they would be unlikely to do with any other magazine.

It would also give Eric (and his musical legacy) some extra exposure. Think about it - if he's not featured on a guitar magazine cover now or in the near future, when it it likely to ever happen?

What do others think? Any requests?

A tribute issue is an excellent idea, and I support it 100%.

Eric has helped create GT from its days back at Music Maker publishing.. I remember we worked together on one of his first columns - Chet Atkins' arrangement of 'Vincent'.
Paul is absolutely right, his column was the sole reason for purchase of the magazine for many people, and I know for myself, Eric has introduced me to many new acoustic guitarists and their music, that I may not have otherwise listened to.

Yes, a cover photo and at least one of his own works of music inside, would be a worthy thing to do.

I think that Eric's version of smells like teen spirit is in the pipeline - a special feature is a good idea.

Same as I said on the other forum. Brilliant idea and one that really should happen.

I'm a new member of the GT forum. I found out about Erics tragic passing and had to put fourth my view about his tribute.

Eric deserves a fitting tribute to his remarkable and formidable talent as a guitarist, song writer/composer and his work as a GT tutor/columist and as a person. I am sure Neville Marten, David Mead and the rest of the GT team will not reject the views and comments and requests made by Erics fans regarding how and when to pay tribute to him, and i hope that future publishings do not holt whatever plans are put forward regarding Erics remeberance in fourth coming issues of GT.

I would just like to elabourate on Paul Hurleys' ideas. I think that Erics tribute should be paid in style by dedicating a special issue soley to him, giving the chance to each of the GT team to transcribe their own personal favourite song that Eric composed or arranged and anything they would like to say, also re-printing of some of Erics best colums that he wrote for GT, if at all possible. Eric would obviously be the cover feature giving him maximum exposure. The issue would give his music even more exposure which would increase the sales of his recordings and works, thus increasing the financial support his family will recieve at this difficult time. I'm sure in such circumstances Erics publishers will not refuse the rights for his works to feature in his own issue of GT.

If such an issue would warrant a higher cost than a regular issue, i, and i'm sure Erics fans and admirers would not hesitate to pay the extra cash to give him the final fairwell he rightly deserves, especially if some or most of the proceeds go to his wife and children and other family.

    Any other thoughts?

    Paul.
