Oh. Not a thread about casting shadows on the wall to entertain my nieces...

I love my Flextone II. I occasionally get loaned a Boogie Mk IV combo. In a rehearsal room the difference is obvious. Add a drummer, bass player and a shouting mob (often with pitchforks) throw in a couple of drinks to drop the top end of my hearing, add audio tiredness that screws your hearing response at volume and I'd find it hard to tell the difference after three numbers.

Oh yes, the Boogie is a only three trick pony unless you want to spend a couple of minutes tinkering between each song.

(Not too fair really. I have an old GSP21L and a Rockman Octopus MIDI Switcher to control the Boogie, so it can do a fair chameleon impression, I'd rather owen the Boogie but play through a Vetta (please Santa/Satan!!). Go figure.)

I've just bought a PodXT thing and it's great. I know that it will never sound as good as the original amps or effects that it models but I couldn't afford them. The other advantage of digital modelling is the ability to get a decent tone at a volume that doesn't alienate my neighbours. It may not improve my playing but it has given me a lot more enthusiasm which helps me practise more.

I saw what ya did there

I'll add to Trell's post: A tube screamer is a total waste of time on a POD.

I never really understand people's desite to have 'hendrix's' tone etc..
Unless you wanna play ina covers band then whats the real point? Same goes for signature guitars....surely it's more satisfying to be original?

Well if you happened to be inspired by Hendrix's tone or BB's or whoever that's why you'd "want their tone" in reality you'll create your own interpretation of it. Which is your own tone.

As for signature guitars they're a great way of getting a modified stock guitar as the model is a production one and has lots of the features the artist (and you) like.

Just ask the question - what is it about that tone that I like? You're recognising something that speaks to you, and that can be reversed to speak to others. Its the connection between the inner and outer world.

I like modelling. It is a lot better sounding than conventional transistor amps and it isn't more expensive. I would prefer a real valve amp evry day of the week but I really can't afford one.
What do you mean I "couldn't be the president of the United States of America"? Tell me something! It's till "we, the people" right?

Have used a POD XT & the Marshall pre amp for a while now.
Very convienient to plug staight into a computer & record. Have been mostly a studio guitarist & its a good quick way to get something happening.
POD is very convienient to practise with for headphones.

Didn't own an amp for years in preference to these. However, started teaching & got some amps to teach with. I had realised I had lost something that I'd forgotten about. The digital modelling doesn't quite have the same vibe as cranking up an amp.

Tried putting the POD into an amp for FX but it sounded crap= but I would still use it straight into a computer. I will get some separate FX boxes for my amp set up.

Have also started a course at the guitar institute as haven't been in a band for years. In the performance workshop it was great to be blasting through a F*ck off Marshall again & feeling some air move. Again something I'd forgotten about in my life as a studio guitarist.

My conclusion - both have their place.

Digi modelling effects have never really cut it for me live. Id love to have a POD XT for recording though. Someday

For now im sticking with some stompboxes and my amp for when I play live.
