Default So I watched the Marshall DVD last night......

.... can't say I was particularly impressed with the Modern Vintage (Vintage Modern?) Marshall demo. Just sounded like a one sound wonder, and a sound which could be created by just about any decent modern valve amp. Maybe it's just the limitations of my TV's speakers........

    Factory tour was interesting, mind.

Yup, we're gonna haveta wait until they turn up in the shops.

When's that gonna be, JamieH ? any idea ?

Must admit, I quite like the idea of KT66's, purple tolex, "Bluesbreaker" tone and Celestion Greenbacks, but that's just wishful thinking, without being able to assemble the tone in my mind.

Of course, the most vital element in that "tone" equation is the purple tolex...

I was impressed (watched on my PC) - the amps offer the classic Marshall rock tones in spades (well you'd expect that) and seem real easy to use. Guitarist gave them five stars although I've not had time to read the review.

Seems everyone on the DVD had Marshall as their surname ....

Just finished watching the whole DVD.

I'll reserve judgement on the amp until I try one in person, but there certainly seem to be some promising sounds in there. I like the all-valve KT66 idea, though I think the styling lets the amp down - I reckon that front control panel is too big.

With regards to the DVD though, I'd say "well done Marshall!". I found the whole thing very interesting and enjoyable. Marketing tool it may be, but they didn't have to give us a free DVD, so thanks...

The dvd's just finished in my room.

I'll sum it up - *yawn*. Nothing new, no special sounds.
    Just marshall being marshall.

I was particularly unimpressed with their guitarist chap - using all this "vintage tone 111!!11 rawk!111!" crap.

Be fair though - that's like criticising Apple for releasing something shiny and white, or complaining that an M Knight Shamalangadingdong film is crap - you know what you're getting . . .
    Red ones are better.

I'm not sure if theres a market for it. I think the combo should look like a Bluesbreaker, then I think people would want one. I think theres a Market for a retro 2 x 12 combo with switchable gain stage.

But the combo looks fucking ugly.
