Default Starting out with Drum software....

After a fairly fruitless search to find an actual drum machine that will make convincing "rock/metal" sounds, I'm thinking of going down the computer route.
I really like some of the sounds from the Drumkit From Hell stuff that I've heard. So with that in mind, what do I need to start out?
Also, how easy is it to use? I've never done anything remotely computery with music but do find programming drum machines fairly simple.

Help and advice as always, is much appreciated.

Reaper is probably most bang for you buck and has a learning curve not worse than the other 3 I know well.

And BFD2 is the drum software I prefer but EZ Drummer seems very cool too.

I also got myself an Alesis pad thingy for making drum patterns.

Make the effort to learn something that is more complex, its worth it in the long run. That said, cubase or logic, or other DAWs arent exactly complicated for what you want to do.
