Inspired by Clare, I just sat and figured out the chords to Lily Allens version of Naive. I'm not too appy with the last chord, but I can't get it any closer. Still, I'm kind of pleased with myself. I'm quite intuitive at working out melodys, but I suck at chords.
(Possibly) For Sale: Vox AD60VT. Make me an offer.

    Cool 8)

I find chords nearly impossible to work out at the moment!

Yeah chords are pretty tricky, but as someone said earlier, there are lots of cliche chord sequences used in popular music, so you can get quite far just by trying to recognise how they sound.

I don't think this has been said earlier...

Write it down as you go, either chord symbols divided onto bars, ie :

    | C / G / | Am / / / | C / G / | C / / / | for "Knockin",

or onto tab sheets if you're doing a riff or solo (knock up a blank tab sheet in Word, and print a few off...)

Work it out first, then learn to play it to time afterwards.

Also, STOP the music immediately after the chord/note you're identifying (if it's a tricky one). You can only remember the last few notes you heard, so if the music keeps going, it wipes your memory... but that may be an age thing !

Keep going back over the same few notes (CD's with a remote are great for this, better than vinyl) until you get them, one note at a time.

Some songwriters also have tricks they use again and again (eh, John Frusciante ?) and you get to recognise their favourites.

As others said, keep going, it gets easier ! (I still have problems with diminished and altered chords, mind you...)
