Default The Ten minute workout

So, on the advice of othes on here, I'm now using a metronome to control my playing of the exercises.

However, I've worked out that on chart 3, the bpm for each exercise at the highest level are as follows -

Ex 1 - Not relevant
Ex 2 - 11
Ex 3 - 175
Ex 4 - 240
Ex 5 - 98

I'm sure this isn't right as this is waaaaaaaay beyond my ability, no matter how I practise it. Exercise 3, for instance, is a 6 string arpeggio of 8th notes at 175 bpm, and exercise 4 is a cross-picking exercise of 8th notes at 240 bpm. Huh? I based my calculations on the fact that in ex 3, there's a total of 14 quarter notes in the exercise (played as pairs of eighths, to be played 25 times in two minutes. 14 x 25=350, divided by two (across two minutes) gives you 175 bpm. Similarly, 14 quarter notes (played in 16ths) over two minutes 14 times gives 98 bpm.

I'm the first to admit I'm thick and that I know absolutely feck all, but please, someone tell me I've got these calculations wrong, too. And if you think I am wrong, please tell me how to work them out correctly so I can finally learn how to do these charts.
Yeah, but what if the Hokey Cokey really is what it's all about??

Only just seen this - there is a table of metronome times on my website at www.davidmead.net - see if they agree with yours.

Next, if there are still any problems, send me an email via the site and I'll do my best to help. The exercises shouldn't be beyond anyone... it's just a case of patient practice!

All the best

David - thanks for that. The last time I looked on yor site, the metronome charts weren't there, but I have them now.

And they are vastly different to my calculations.

For instance, I (and one or two others) had A+ level on chart three, exercise 4 to be down at 240 bpm. You have it at 144 bpm. A+ on exercise 4 on chart 4 is down at 105 bpm on your chart, but I had it at 210.

Maybe I'll have another go (and stick at it, this time) after all.

Fuck that for a game of soldiers, I'll never manage that, I'm sticking to what I want to do.
