That's our aim, too. We're only just getting started, but so far we've got:

    Get The Funk Out
    Raise Your Hands
    Sober (Pink)
    Beat It (MJ/FOB)
    Hysteria (Muse)
    Hash Pipe
    Sweet Child o' Mine

Yeah, Sweet Child doesn't really fit with the "unique" aspect, but we do it just to keep the singer happy. Prospective/likely songs coming up are:

    Wasted Years
One Day Remains (Alter Bridge's only good song)
Let Me Hear You Scream (Ozzy)
Star (Extreme, if I can ever figure out how to play it without making a fool of myself)
    The Pretender (Foo Fighters)

Most of those are pretty uncommon in my experience, but feel free to tell me I'm wrong

its a funny thing - its quite safe music for those remembering the 80's ( I don't think we get audiences who remember Jamaica in the early 60's!) and most of the stuff is well known to even quite young kids. But, also the music of choice for massive shaven headed blokes who like bobbing up and down and knocking over everything in their sight.

Still, you can't fail with Baggy Trousers. It is pretty much a riff based rock song with a couple of little spaces to insert minor pentatonic solos so it would also be ideal for a rockier cover.

Weird coincidence, our drummer's listed that one on our latest 'possible songs to learn' mammoth list.

I just don't get Ska at all (sorry), but maybe we should give it a try.

TBH oustide of listening stuff to learn or as possibles for the set I don't really listen to ska. My listening these days is about 90% country ( although most people don't get that either).

However, its simple music to dance to and part of the same family tree as blues so yer( well, my) blues scale and pentatonic based licks will usually work.

On Baggy Trousers I'm just doing clean rythmn somewhere in the background ( which is all there is guitar wise on the original) but that main riff is pretty much a big dumb power chord riff crying out for a load of distortion. However badly we play it its the most crowd pleasing song I've ever played.

Our singer is quite keen on us doing the ska version of Black Night ( not an original thought, Bad Manners did it) but that would be giving up the very last shreds of my rock youth to do that...

It's slightly depressing and slightly reassuring the overlap between the set lists above with each other and with ours (thinks this is a bit out of date now):

Thriller - Michael Jackson (Halloween special)
    Creep - Radio Head
Many of Horror - Biffy Clyro
Sympathy for the Devil - Rolling Stones
Standing in the Way of Control - Gossip
    Torn - Natalie Imbruglia
Bohemian Like You - The Dandy Warhols
Kiss Me - Sixpence None the Richer
All the Small Things - Blink 182
    In the Morning - Razorlight
Have a Nice Day - Stereophonics
    Sit Down - James
    Who Knew - Pink
Save Tonight - Eagle Eye Cherry
Never Forget You - The Noisettes
Breakfast at Tiffany's - Deep Blue Something
    Mercy - Duffy
    Feeling Good - Muse
Dream Catch Me - Newton Faulkner
    New Shoes - Paulo Nuttini
Hard to Handle - Black Crowes
    Teenage Kicks - The Undertones
    The Fear - Lily Allen
You've got the Love - Florence and the Machine
Hanging on the Telephone - Blondie
    Love Machine - Girls Aloud
Sex on Fire - Kings of Leon
