Thanks to your help, I've had a second attempt at this:

I Wanna Hold Your Hand, mark II

Be as pedantic as you like, as it's the only way I'm going to learn!

    Thanks.

EDIT: I've only altered the guitar part, but Bezzer was thinking of giving me the bass and drums split up, so I may have a go at these later!

Ok well if you want pedantic!

I still reckon the guitar is a bit boomy. So try lowering the low mids and the bass. What kind of EQ are you using if you know? Does it look like a little graph?

Also I think quite a bit of compression should be added to the guitar part, just to even out the highs and lows and to make it sound a bit tighter. Try putting the ratio at 8 with a short attack and release (or if possible put it on "auto" if it isn't already).

Reverb is still a bit too prominant too I reckon.

Sorry to sound picky, it's getting better though!

I want picky, I want to learn, so thanks for the comments.

I'm using the Kjaerhus Classic EQ (looks like a mixing board setup). Tracktion does have a 4-band EQ with a graph type thing as well though. I'm definitely open to suggestions as to the best way to do the EQ - it confuses me!

I like the Tracktion one - drag the circles left and right to alter the frequency you are cutting/boosting and wipe the segment in the circle around to alter the width of the affected freqs

    Thusly:

I've had a play with the Tracktion EQ and it is quite nice.

Had another go at the track but due to internet connection problems, didn't get it posted. I may find time tonight. I may have to fiddle around with it a bit more though as my bf said it sounded horrible (but then, his musical taste is dubious at best  )

Well, here is attempt 3: attempt 3 if anyone can bear to listen to it again!

My bf said it sounded awful, but I'm hoping he's wrong!!

I was planning on doing the lead guitar part next, but it is a lot harder than I thought! I'll probably try to do the vocals and then add the odd lead bit that I feel is important (i.e. the bits that everyone hears when listening to the track).

But first, how's the rhythm, bass and drums sounding? (I now have separate bass and drum tracks too, thanks to Bezzer).

That's not very nice now is it. No cakes or treats for him this week!

The guitar sound is much better, seems to dissappear a bit in the verses though and there are a few bits where it slips out. Other than that it's starting to sound pretty tidy.

Shame about the excessive reverb on the drums ... sorry about that ops: (not too bad hopefully)
