    Default blues licks books

Any suggestions for a good basic blues licks book. I need to acquire some licks it would seem, and I want some bluesy ones! Pentatonic licks I'm really after at the moment.

thing's licks on the mp3 of the beginner's group topic has got me interested!

    Cheers

blues licks you can use is good. David meads book of the blues has a lot in as well, as does Giants of Blues (can't remember the author).
If it's acoustic blues you're after, half of 101 Licks for Acoustic Guitar (by one of the Traums) is devoted to it.
None of you seem to understand; I'm not locked in here with you, you'll all locked in here with me.

    Thanks, Vim.

The 'blues you can use' does look good. I'm sure the David Mead one is great, but looked to have more on blues in general rather than licks? Giants of Blues looks good too.

It's electric blues I'm after for the moment, but that acoustic one looks pretty useful too.

I've a couple of good uns.

Fast Foward - Blues licks for guitar
It starts by teaching you a lick over a bar or 2 then gives you a full 12 bar to learn with the techniques used, like an exam piece if you will. Really good book with about 6 or 7 exam pieces in total.

    The Encyclopedia of blues licks.

Well over 300 licks of varying styles laid out in different genres and artists. Gives you 12 licks over each couple of pages which build into a full 12 bar with turnaround. Not quite as interesting as the previous recomendation but certainly plenty of the 300 are worth learning.

Blues You Can Use and Blues Licks You Can Use - ordered.

I would have bought the Fast Forward book too, but it isn't available for 4-6 weeks

Hmmm, would it be too much of a posey-up-myself thing to say... listen out for blues riffs you love in tunes and transcribe them... then use the CAGED patterns to map them over several shapes and figure which shapes best suit it? No theory needed.

I find books are a bit of a hit an miss affair, as you learn one.. go nope that one sucked... onto the next... not so lame... next and so on..

Whereas you listen to one Albert King album and you're thinking ... oh I like that one 0:36 on Born Under A Bad Sign, 1:20 on Laundromat Blues ... etc. and you train your ears all time.

    Just my (possibly unwanted) opinion.

It's a very sensible post, but I'm after a bit of instant gratification at the moment! Just wanted to get a few ideas so that I can at least attempt some sort of lead playing when I have my next lesson.

I'll try and find time to have a go at your suggestion though - it is much more sensible than spending more money, but time is of the essence!!
