Default Where to go from here....

I'm wondering about how to improve my playing. I've had a brief look at the (now 41 page monster) thread for beginner's. It starts with people saying how they're not very good, whereas at the current end things seem far more technical. How much would be gained by wading through this thread in more detail?

I could do with considerable improvement in finger dexterity. I'm definitely struggling with faster passages. Would the "Ten Minute Guitar Workout" be a sensible investment?

General advice on the use of this part of the forum would be good!

Sorry to be way way way too vague.

Martyn, my 2 cents worth suggestions are:

book a series of lessons with a guitar teacher [having thought out what you want to learn first and told him/her that before your first lesson]

play with other people, informally in your home or theirs or in a pub.

listen to music that may not be your first choice for listening. If you are a metal head, try listening to some Blues for example, this opens your ears and mind and through time will enrich your playing as you add bits gleaned from the Blues to your metal.

keep on trying things. If you like distortion, play clean undistorted sounds for a change. That sort of thing.

And always remember that music is meant to be fun. An hour strumming a few 'simple' chords with a friend is a great way to re-invigorate your playing.

Good luck and remember, keep it fun.
