    Oi, Dr Green ...

Let me put you straight ...

First up, I was merely pointing out the fact that a new user will have to get their head around the patch mixer ...and, of course, there is a learning curve involved ... Hey, even the 2496 has a Delta Control Panel that you must learn about in order use it in the right way.

Second, yes the card DID - you heard me right - cause all manner of probs with the AMD64 3800+ system I was using ... infact, the unit went back to the company that built it ( nusystems ) three times, only for them to concede that after discussions with EMU, they could not get the drivers to work properly on the unit. I am not a complete tech-head and that is why I paid a so-called 'professional' music pc builder to put the thing together for me. If EMU at the time couldn't point the systenm builder in the right direction, then I think I have every ground to comment on my personal experience with the card. As regard my right to give a direct comparison, I talk from my experience which is not in any way meant to be reflective of everyone else's experiences with the EMU 0404 card ( although, to be fair at that time, there were many probs the EMU 0404 seem to have had getting to work properly on many a system back around it's launch !! ).I mean where do you come from with comments like you made about my right to give an opinion ?!! So, brotha please, don't start spouting your sensiblities and somewhat personal slants in the manner you have - I think it's a bit of a 'prickish' thing to do. I have every right to present my experience, being that it was first hand ...and then taking into consideration the fact that I have owned both cards, I think I have a balanced view to give about my experience. Lump it or like it, pal.
Hey, one question for you : ' How long have you been on EMU's payroll?@

Aye. You should keep in mind then that you only mentioned learning patchmix in your first post.

Oh dear ... 'last word' kinda guy are you, Dr green ?

Infact, I shouldn't keep any such thing in mind at all .... in addition to my own comments, please feel free to check out various backdated forum articles ( including EMU's own ) around the first six months after the EMU cards launch - they were all dogged by driver issues ( as was the case with the cheaper 0404 in my then new build system ), and you will find many, many a negative note about the cards on the forums at the time.

I think anyone buying a piece of music hardware for their pc should automatically expect some process of familiarisation, as a matter of course ...hence, I didn't feel any great need to refer to Delta's control panel ... but I will say that the Delta panel was far more straight forward and logical a matter to get you're head around, if you really want me to get niggly about matters.
Anyway, enough said ... I think the poster will infer what he wants at this point.

You should keep it in mind, because my first post was based on the information you provided. Am I supposed to assume you know what you're talking about based on the fact you said you can't use patchmix? Like I said, 90% of people who say its shit think so because they can't use it. If you come and say what you said, then I'll try to help the person who wants the information by pointing that out. I know what kind of problems people have with them, and what you said wasn't a real one.

You don't need to try and convince me otherwise, I accept your opinion and the experience you've had with it now that you've said more about it, but my original point still stands based on the information up until that point in time. Nothing can change that, it has passed, it is history.

'last word' kinda guy are you, Dr green ?
Not at all. I just don't appreciate people going off on tangents aimed at me because they forget (or choose to ignore) what was said in the first place.

You know what ...lets put this thing to rest once and for all.

First up, I never ever said that 'I' could not use 'Patch Mix' in my intial post - I suggest you read throught the passage again :
" The patch mix mixer must be open and running at all times you use your sequencer or else you won't hear anything. Secondly, you have to get you head around setting the Patch Mixer up - not to hard if you are familiar with basic mixer setups ( buit if you are not, well ... ). When the thingsd worked, it sounded good .... remember it has a very good dynamic range and this is celarly reflected in what comes through "

Er, just where do you come from with comments like you are making, Dr Green. I think it is you who needs to address yourself !!

    Anyway, enough said - really.

Im about to go buy an m-audio card, Ive had that 0404 card the last year.
Ive used it on 2 pc's and on the first it gave me nothing but trouble as well.
on my current pc it does work properly.
the positive thing about it is, as said that it has a brilliant sound quality. I sure hope that Im not disappointed by teh new card Im about to get.....
but I need more inputs, so.. and that whole emu path mix thing is a pain and the build-in effects are crap.

so, Im wondering, Im looking at that m-audio card with the 4 inputs. does anybody have any advice on similair cards? is it the best optioin in that price range?

No, I'm not here to debate whether or not the drivers work. I'm not interested. I know they don't work for a lot of people, I know they work for me. I'm not going to argue about it. I said it for jacob's benefit so that he isn't put off the emu based on other people's experiences with patchmix, not so I could argue with you. And seeing as he posted it july 21st 2004, I doubt he gives a shit what we say.
