He sounds a bit burnt from it all.

Would of liked to see him play drums rather than front Genesis. The 1974 era band didn't milk the reunion tour cash cow. Shame.

I think Genesis, Bon Jovi and Status Quo are a load of old wank.

On one hand i would have liked to have seen the 1974 era band but i do agree with you about Gabriel. He has an aversion of retracing old steps. Didn't care for Collins later era. If their recent reunion sound was anything to go by a gabriel reunion would have been an over-polished, over-rehearsed affair.

Phil Collins is one of the greatest rock drummers ever, and at least at one time a decent songwriter. I liked all his stuff with Genesis (with the possible exception of a lot of We Can't Dance) and his early solo material. Where I think it went off the rails is when he got into 'acting' as well as being a 'pop singer'... although it was a little hard to distinguish those two personas sometimes. His music went seriously downhill at the same time.

And he was partly responsible for creating one of the most interesting and innovative drum sounds ever - it wasn't his fault that it was so good that every producer in the industry promptly overused it to death until it was neither any more.

And to be fair, he was also responsible for the popularity of Argyll v-neck tank tops, which is perhaps less forgivable . (And I plead guilty to having owned one as well!)

Aye, shame about the Disney shite he's been farming out for the past few years; my little one LOVES 'Brother Bear' and apart from being a fucking dreadful film it's also got a fucking dreadful Phil Collins song in it partly sung by some fucking dreadful kid who couldn't carry a fucking tune if you gave it to him in a fucking bag.

Sorry, that needed to come out.

No, it started earlier than that. Fucking Sussudio or whatever that fucking shit song is called.

Sorry, I had to get that out too.

The drummer in a band I was in a long time ago used to wear a Phil Collins T-shirt on stage just to annoy people that only thought he did that sort of stuff and that fake 60s crap. He was hoping someone would take offense at it so he could 'correct' them . They never did... probably because he just looked too hard to argue with, Phil Collins shirt or not.

I did actually buy a Phil Collins Greatest Hits recently. The beauty of iTunes is that you can then just delete half of it .

I heard Phil talking about his health problems on a radio interview months ago and was suprised that he kept going with performance in any way.

My problem with him tends to be the Motown covers. I'm not much of a Motown fan at best but he makes them so, well, ' white.' Bleugghh.

Although, of course, this did give us the joke:

what do you get when you wear a corduroy condom?

    a Groovy Kind of Love.
