IMO He should have stayed out of films, They have Bob Hoskins already. Liked his No son of mine song and his Heroics for Live Aid. He seems like a top guy , good luck to him, though he must have been sweating his bollies off in the Goriila suit!

He did strike me as being just very tired of it all. Felt sorry for him, loads of people hate him, and he can't play drums any more, who would want to end up like that?

I've been trying to find decent drum tabs of his 70's output, haven't found any though, will have to try and suss it out myself . I also really like Land of Confusion and some of the hits around that time, but not as much as the early prog stuff.

    Genesis Wind and Wuthering

I think it's one of the best albums they ever did...

Collins plays drums, sings and had a big hand in writing it...

    it really is superb..

I like the Quo, the early 70's stuff is brilliant, almost punk like. not as easy to play as some may think. Phil Collins was overexposed and thats why the backlash against him was so great, he became so uncool but I've heard him play in a big band and he was fucking outrageously awesome, sounded like the old school drummers with jazz backgrounds like Mitch Mitchell et al, as if he had 4 arms. Bon Jovi can suck my shiny balls though, anything Ive heard on the radio from them in the last 15 years has sounded like a total b grade re-hash of former glories

Probably my favourite Genesis album too, although And Then There Were Three is a close second or its equal. I think I like the music better on W&W and the songs better on ATTWT, if that makes sense .

IMO, he should've stayed out of registry offices/churches! Poor guy has paid out more in divorce settlements than just about anyone.. Wish the guy well - he always came across as a thoroughly decent bloke!

I started my musical life as a drummer and I used to listen to Phil's playing quite a bit, so I'm sad to hear what's happened to him....both physically and mentally.

    This seems apt:

Like the dust that settles all around me
I must find a new home
The ways and holes that used to give me shelter
Are all as one to me now

But I, I would search everywhere
    Just to hear your call
And walk upon stranger roads than this one
In a world I used to know before, I miss you more

Than the sun reflecting off my pillow
Bringing the warmth of new life
And the sounds that echoed all around me
I caught a glimpse of in the night

Oh, but now, now I've lost everything
I give to you, my soul
The meaning of all that I believed before
Escapes me in this world of none, no thing, no one

    And I would search everywhere
    Just to hear your call
And walk upon stranger roads than this one
In a world I used to know before

    But now I've lost everything
I give to you my soul
The meaning of all that I believed before
Escapes me in this world of none
    I miss you more

    .................................................. ...........

....and as Tony Banks is probably the most underated lyric writer in history, here's another couple of poignant stanzas that fit the bill:

Stand up to the blow that fate has struck upon you,
Make the most of all you still have coming to you, or
Lay down on the ground and let the tears run from you,
Crying to the grass and trees and heaven finally on your knees

Let me live again, let life come find me wanting.
Spring must strike again against the shield of winter.
Let me feel once more the arms of love surround me,
Telling me the danger's past, I need not fear the icy blast again.

After carefully considering your in-depth and pithy contribution, I have come to the inevitable conclusion that you are talking Horlicks.

I hope this clarifies the issue for you.

    Best Wishes

    Joe
